Pirate Rescue

MT Nautica Johor Bahru

Malaysia authorities have located and retrieved a huge tanker carrying oil and gas that was hijacked Thursday in the Straits of Singapore. The MT Nautica Johor Bahru was accompanied by a barge and was carrying close to $4.6 million USD worth of oil and gas when it was hijacked by pirates.

The owners alerted Malasian maritime authorities on Friday and they were fortunately able to locate the ship and arrest the pirates. The ship was hijacked in the South China Sea, and pirates were likely hurrying to unload their valuable cargo to a pre-arranged buyer on the black market. Fortunately Malaysian authorities were able to stop it before it happened.
